# Kinora > Kinora is a free, open-source (GPL-2.0), lightweight self-hosted media server for movies and TV shows. It is a single Rust binary with the web app built in, uses SQLite and FFmpeg, streams to browsers and a native Android TV app, and transcodes on the GPU (NVIDIA NVENC, Intel Quick Sync, AMD VAAPI, Apple VideoToolbox) only when a device can't play a file directly. It is a free alternative to Jellyfin, Plex and Emby for movie and TV libraries. Key facts: - Install: Docker image `ghcr.io/lancealthouse/kinora:latest` (amd64 and arm64), Docker Compose, or the Unraid template. Default port 8420. - Hardware transcoding is free; there is no paid tier or cloud account. - Supports HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision; Dolby Vision profile 8.1 plays as HDR10 without transcoding; tone mapping to SDR with libplacebo (GPU) or zscale (CPU). - TMDB metadata and artwork, users with roles, resume and watched state, automatic audio and subtitle selection per show, themes, toggleable modules. - Remote access through Tailscale or any reverse proxy (Caddy, Nginx, Traefik), including sub-paths. - Not yet available: music, audiobooks, photos, live TV/DVR, iOS and Apple TV apps. ## Docs - [Introduction](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/): what Kinora is and what works today - [Install with Docker](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/install/docker/): docker run and Docker Compose, GPU flags - [Install on Unraid](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/install/unraid/): template, appdata paths, NVIDIA and Intel GPUs - [Hardware transcoding](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/guides/hardware-transcoding/): NVENC, Quick Sync, VAAPI, VideoToolbox, HDR and Dolby Vision - [Remote access](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/guides/remote-access/): Tailscale and reverse proxies - [Themes](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/guides/themes/): built-in themes and custom JSON themes - [Automatic audio and subtitles](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/guides/auto-tracks/) - [Android TV app](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/guides/android-tv/): sideloading on NVIDIA Shield ## Optional - [Kinora vs Jellyfin, Plex and Emby](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/compare/): honest feature comparison - [FAQ](https://kinoraserver.com/docs/faq/) - [Source code](https://github.com/LanceAlthouse/kinora)
